Level II LDM Requests

March 11, 2010

This bulletin contains updated information for customers requesting Level II NEXRAD Data via the Unidata LDM application from Weather Decision Technologies.

Updated LDM Request Reminder

Customers who utilize the Unidata LDM application to request compressed Level II data streams from Weather Decision Technologies should immediately read this bulletin. Users should verify they are using the correct hostnames for requesting Level II products. The use of the hostname "craft.wdtinc.com" is deprecated and outside access to that machine will soon be terminated on March 31st 2010. Users may need to change to utilize updated hostnames as seen below.

EXAMPLE BELOW. YOUR CONFIGURATION MAY DIFFER:

From ~/etc/ldmd.conf: INCORRECT
----------------------------------------------------------------
REQUEST    "KAMA|KTLX|KFDR"    craft.wdtinc.com
----------------------------------------------------------------

* changes to *

From ~/etc/ldmd.conf: CORRECT
----------------------------------------------------------------
REQUEST    "KAMA|KTLX|KFDR"    nexrad1.wdtinc.com    PRIMARY
REQUEST    "KAMA|KTLX|KFDR"    nexrad2.wdtinc.com    SECONDARY
----------------------------------------------------------------

Updating Your Configuration

The following steps are presented for guidance purposes only, and may not work for all customers or installations. Users should refer to the Unidata LDM Configuration Documentation available from Unidata for detailed information on syntax, editing limitations and other aspects of the software. WDT does not directly support the LDM application itself, but will work with clients to assure they are utilizing the correct request options.

  1. Using a Linux based text editor, login as the LDM user account, typically "ldm".
  2. Change directory to "~/etc"
  3. Open the "ldmd.conf" file using a text editor, such as "vi" or "emacs".
  4. Locate and change the line reading "craft.wdtinc.com" to the above example.
  5. Create a new line with the secondary hostname as shown above. Be sure to use TAB spacing in between the statements.
  6. Save your changes.
  7. Restart your LDM Server using the "ldmadmin stop", then "ldmadmin start" command sequence.
  8. Verify your changes by typing "ldmadmin watch". You should see products within 5 minutes.

If you experience problems obtaining the data after this change, you can contact a support representative below to arrange for a consultation. Consultations and walkthrus for this change are only available 9am - 4pm Monday-Friday Central Time.
